Fashion Week Fall 2008

By cmlblog

Today kicks off the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in NYC. For those of you in the know, Fashion Week is the end all, be all of the apparel industry. 80 different collections will be shown at the tents in Bryant Park. These shows primarily exhibit American designers, but there are a few international designers sprinkled in as well.

The first shows began in 1943 by publicist Eleanor Lambert. Initially this week was started to show buyers and editors who weren’t able to go to Paris designers and their collections.  Throughout the years, designers showcased at lofts, clubs and restaurants around the city. In 1994, Fashion Week was localized in Bryant Park.  Designers continue to celebrate this week to showcase their collections.

Editors, photographers and buyers attend this shows to see what will dictate Fall 2008  trends. To get a closer look at the collections, look to style network or style.com.

Here is a partial list of what is being shown:

Monday: Peter Som will be debuting his own collection along with showing Bill Blass.
Tuesday: Prada is celebrating their collaboration on a short movie called “Trembled Blossom”. It is directed by James Lima.
More happenings: Leader singer of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s,  Karen O,  will be deejaying for United Bamboo, an indie collection. Adidas and Diesel will be premiering their collaboration of a new line called Adidas Original Denim by Diesel.

Peace, love and fashion!
